After his break in Bedara Kannappa (1954), Rajkumar emerged as a hero to millions who spoke the language of the southern Indian state of Karnataka. Principled and political he continued to campaign for the region, and starred in Mannina Maga (1968) which sparked a boom in the Kannada film industry.
