A political cartoonist in his native Czechoslovakia, Jiránek ran the gauntlet of official opprobrium over the years. He found a separate subversive outlet with popular animated films on television, produced by the Krátky Film Studios and featuring such enduring characters as Pat and Mat, and the rabbits Bob and Bobek
