Former actor Jarre found greater success writing screenplays, an early break coming after his work on Rambo (1985). He won widespread critical acclaim for the American civil war drama Glory (1989) and a thoughtful retelling of a familiar western story in Tombstone (1993). Later films include The Devil’s Own (1997).
