The Japanese American actor 'Mako' was Oscar-nominated for his role as a Chinese seaman in The Sand Pebbles (1966) and starred as Akiro the Wizard in Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Conan the Destroyer (1984). In 1965, he co-founded East West Players, the first Asian-American theatre company in the US.
