As chairman of ICI, Harvey-Jones was responsible for reversing its plummeting fortunes, subsequently finding wider fame as an unlikely television star. In the BBC series Troubleshooter (1990-2000) he visited ailing businesses around the country, assessing the situation with characteristic bluntness and offering candid advice on how to turn things round.
