For some the voice of Mission Control at NASA, Haney put his experience with the American space programme to good use when he joined the ITN team broadcasting the Apollo 11 moon landing. Along with Alastair Burnet and science editor Peter Fairley, he anchored 16 hours of acclaimed live coverage.
