A Moroccan actor who began his career in French cinema during the 1960s, Benmessaoud was better known by his stage name, Amidou, He regularly collaborated with director Claude Lelouch who gave him one of his first roles in Le proper de l’homme (1961), and Amidou also appeared in American productions such as Sorcerer (1977) and Ronin (1998).
