Most familiar for playing Sophia, wisecracking mother to Bea Arthur’s character in The Golden Girls (1985-92), Getty came to fame after working predominantly on stage. She reprised her best known role in other sitcoms, and also appeared in the films Mask (1985) and Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (1992).
