After early success in the 1960s writing for ITV’s Armchair Theatre Exton penned screenplays for the films Night Must Fall (1964), Entertaining Mr Sloane (1970) and 10 Rillington Place (1971). He later became associated with popular programmes such as Poirot (1989-2001), Jeeves & Wooster (1990-93) and Rosemary & Thyme (2003-2006).
