A comedy performer with roots in variety, Douglas was best known to cinema audiences for his roles in eight Carry On films, beginning with Carry On Matron (1972). Frequently playing a variation on his bumbling, twitching stage alter ego, he also found small screen success in The Shillingbury Tales (1980).
