An Irish actor greatly in demand on the stage, Donnelly appeared in movies too, including Richard Lester’s The Knack (1965), John Huston’s final film The Dead (1987) and Coppola’s The Godfather: Part III (1990). He starred in adaptations of contemporary classics on television and – atypically – the sitcom Yes, Honestly (1976-77).
