A former child star of Hal Roach’s Our Gang shorts, Cooper raised his profile further with acclaimed performances in Skippy (1931), The Champ (1931) , Treasure Island (1934) and others. He later turned to directing television shows including M*A*S*H but enjoyed further acting success in Superman (1978) and its sequels.
