A popular figure on the northern club circuit, Collier gained national exposure winning the ITV talent contest Ace of Clubs. He won wider acclaim with an appearance at the 1971 Royal Variety Performance, and featured on shows such as The Good Old Days (1970), Jokers Wild (1970-74) and Punchlines (1981-84).
