An influential figure in the development of ITN, Clifford came to the fledgling news broadcaster after early experience with BBC radio. Credited with helping shape the company in its fledgling years, introducing innovations such as vox pop interviews, he later served in executive posts at Anglia Television and Tyne Tees.
