A pioneering outside broadcast producer, Chivers was accorded a special BAFTA for his work, one of three he won. He produced broadcasts from extreme environments - mountains, submarines - that had hitherto never been successfully achieved, as well as all manner of national, sporting and entertainment events from the 1953 Coronation onwards.
