A director who worked in theatre and film, Cyprus born Cacoyannis is most closely associated with the worldwide hit Zorba The Greek (1964), starring Anthony Quinn in the title role and Alan Bates. His other films include Windfall In Athens (1954), Electra (1962), The Trojan Women (1971) and Iphigenia (1977).
