Argentinian-born Bielinsky worked as an assistant director on films and commercials before breaking through in 2000 with hit debut feature Nueve Reinas (Nine Queens - remade in Hollywood as Criminal in 2004). He had just completed his second feature, El Aura, about a taxidermist who dreams of committing the perfect crime.
