A witness to the creation of some of the finest post-war European cinema, Bellville was assistant director to the likes of Antonioni (The Passenger, 1975) and Polanski (Tess, 1979), as well as working with Jeremy Thomas’s Recorded Picture Company on critically acclaimed films such as Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor (1987).
