Under her maiden name, Susannah Hitching, Barratt performed a variety of roles on stage and screen. Television credits include Inspector Morse (1989), Drop the Dead Donkey (1990), The Man From Auntie (1994) and Hamish Macbeth (1995). She later turned to writing, penning the popular book of children's games, I'm Bored.
