What is the Young BAFTA Roadshow with Place2Be?

A longstanding partnership with national children’s mental health charity Place2Be, our Roadshow is a series of primary school visits in some of the most disadvantaged areas in the UK. Designed to inspire creativity it involves:

  • taking children’s presenters into schools
  • running inspiring assemblies and workshops
  • hosting roundtables with children to explore personal concerns and aspirations in smaller groups
  • bringing together experts from across the screen industries such as games designers, animators, actors and writers to reach and inspire children in economically struggling areas

What schools does the Roadshow visit?

Our activity with primary schools has been running since 2016. We visit schools in education “cold spots” with high rates of free school meals. In 2024 this has included visits to Cardiff, Derby, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hastings, Leeds, London, Manchester, and Nottingham.

The Roadshow’s aim is to have a lasting and positive impact on school children’s aspirations and confidence.

School environments are often chaotic, and at times heart-wrenching – BAFTA’s Roadshow gave some very vulnerable children an opportunity to dream big and for a little while forget their worries and enjoy being the amazing little people they are.
