Want to get into film, games or TV? Let us help you.

As part of BAFTAs charitable activity we run a scholarship programme supporting talented British creatives looking to enter the screen industries. Our financial assistance helps create opportunities for successful applicants to study eligible UK undergraduate and postgraduate courses in film, games and TV.

Why apply for the UK scholarship programme?

BAFTA scholars benefit from a unique package of assistance which includes both financial and career support.

Scholars undertaking postgraduate study receive up to £12,000 towards their annual course fees (up to a maximum of £20,000 across two years).

Scholars on undergraduate courses receive a contribution towards living expenses. For those on three or four year courses, only those going into their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study are eligible to apply.

All BAFTA scholars receive mentoring support and free access to BAFTA events around the UK.

UK Scholarship Programme FAQS

Take a look at our useful FAQS section. If you can’t find what you are looking for contact us: [email protected]
  • British applicants on acting courses must be nominated by their drama school, which must be an institution accredited by Drama UK (until its closure in November 2016), or by the national conservatoires of Scotland or Wales. Please speak to your course tutor about this.

  • There is no limit to the number of applications you can submit should you be applying for multiple courses for which you are seeking a scholarship. Please submit an application form for each course you are applying for. Each application will be judged individually so please ensure you include all relevant details in each application.

  • The eligible non-acting course list draws from ScreenSkills Selects courses (as of September 2023), TIGA and BJTC accredited courses. BAFTA needs to rely on external organisation’s accreditation processes as we are not an accreditation body ourselves. We appreciate that this means some good courses may not be eligible this year but there are only a limited number of scholarships on offer.

  • All applicants are assessed on financial need as well as their demonstrated technical ability and personal statement answers.

  • Yes, there is no age limit for applicants.

  • If the course year starts between September 2024 and July 2025 you can apply for a scholarship this year. Please upload a letter confirming that you have applied for the course as part of your scholarship application, even if you have not yet been accepted. Please note if you are invited for an interview, we will need proof from the institution that you have been accepted onto the course.

  • Students entering the second year of an eligible two-year course can apply for a scholarship, but you will need to explain in your Personal Statement how you were able to finance the first year of your course.

  • Unfortunately, we cannot accept any applications after the deadline.

  • Due to the number of applications, we’re unable to give individual feedback. However, we will provide generalised feedback to all unsuccessful applications.

  • British citizens can apply to study in the US with a scholarship from BAFTA Los Angeles or New York. For more information, visit our US scholarships page.

  • If you have any access requirements which make it difficult to understand or complete written applications, please contact us on [email protected] and we’ll be more than happy to guide you through the process. Please note we also offer the opportunity to complete your personal statement answers via video rather than in writing.
