Sophie Anne Hogan, from Dublin, is awarded the BAFTA Scholarship to support her completion of the BA (Hons) Professional Acting course at Drama Studio London.
Born and raised in Dublin’s Liberties, Sophie was a member of both Complex Youth Theatre and Dublin Youth Theatre. As a young performer, she gained experience across stage, screen and live productions, confirming her ambition to pursue acting professionally. After completing the Rose Bruford Foundation Course in Edinburgh in 2023, she continued her training at Drama Studio London and is now entering the final year of her degree.
Since the age of 15, Sophie has worked part time in hospitality and has continued to do so while studying in London, supporting herself throughout her training. Alongside her studies, she has collaborated with filmmakers, theatre-makers and artists on independent creative projects. She particularly values the collaborative nature of creating new work and the opportunity to learn from other artists.
Sophie is especially drawn to screen performance and nuanced, emotionally truthful storytelling. As she enters the final year of her training, she is looking forward to making the transition from drama school into professional practice as an actor.
She says: “Receiving a BAFTA Scholarship means more to me than I can put into words. It will make such a difference in my final year, easing the financial pressure of balancing conservatoire training with part-time work. The opportunity to be supported by and learn from a BAFTA mentor, and to share this experience with the other scholars on the programme, is something I feel incredibly fortunate to have been offered. It is an honour to be joining the BAFTA Scholarship Programme, and I can’t thank BAFTA enough for this opportunity.”
