Sofia Ismail Martin

Sofia Ismail Martin is an experienced producer with a passion for telling surprising, untold stories in a compelling and authentic way. Having cut her teeth producing acclaimed science and history documentaries for a host of UK and international broadcasters, including the BBC’s flagship science programme, Horizon, Sofia has gone on to explore her passion for human interest stories.

In 2018, she co-produced the feature documentary McQueen (Misfits Entertainment), which was released in cinemas worldwide and was nominated for two BAFTAs at the 2019 Film Awards, in the Outstanding British Film and Documentary categories. Previously, she was assistant producer on Channel 5’s Inside Broadmoor (2013) and BBC One’s Animals in Love (2015), and was associate producer on the BBC’s primetime health special Long Live Britain (2013). She also wrote, directed and produced a series of short films under the overarching banner of British Asian History (2022), for the BBC, part of its online history education series for the Key Stage 2 primary national curriculum in England.

Since 2022, Sofia has been working as an in-house producer at Misfits Entertainment. This includes producing a feature documentary about a well-known figure in British culture, and co-producing the scripted feature Girl Next Door, starring Bella Ramsey and directed by Bruce Goodison. Both are due a release in 2025. She also served as post-production executive on Misfits’ feature documentary, The Contestant (2023), which premiered at TIFF and is now available on Hulu and Disney+.
