Shaminder Nahal is head of specialist factual at Channel 4. She commissioned The Piano (2023-2024), with the department’s output also including SAS: Who Dares Wins and Guy Martin and Grayson Perry’s work.

Shaminder has also commissioned such contemporary history and culture series as Defiance: Fighting the Far Right, Miners’ Strike 1984: The Battle for Britain (both 2024), Paula, Depp v Heard (a co-production with Netflix) and Kids (all 2023). Single documentaries include Accused: The Hampstead Paedophile Hoax, My Sexual Abuse: The Sitcom (both 2024), Grenfell (2022) and How to Survive a Dictator (2022-2024). Shaminder was one of the commissioners behind the Black to Front project, Channel 4’s ongoing commitment to improve Black representation onscreen and more widely in the TV industry.

Prior to her current role, Shaminder was deputy editor of Channel 4 News and Newsnight.
