Roxy Rezvany is a BIFA and London Critics’ Circle-nominated writer, director and producer from Brent, London. Beginning her career in 2013, she developed and produced several groundbreaking films for such award-winning companies as Grain Media and VICE. She worked on both seasons of the Emmy award-nominated US TV series Gaycation (Viceland, 2016-2017) with Elliot Page, including developing the pilot episode.
Roxy’s cinematic directorial debut, Little Pyongyang (2018), premiered internationally in competition at CPH:Dox and in the UK at Sheffield DocFest and was the recipient of several awards, including Best Director at Underwire Festival. It was distributed via the Guardian’s Documentaries strand, where it has mustered 500,000-plus online views and received universally glowing reviews.
Wifi Rider (2020), for which she was awarded a One World Media fellowship, premiered in the US on the streaming channel Topic as part of Roger Ross Williams’ One Story Up series and was a prize winner at the Torino Short Film Market (now ShorTO Film Market). Her scripted shorts, Honesty (2021) and Photo Booth (2022), both screened in competition at several BAFTA-qualifying festivals across the UK, including Edinburgh, Cambridge and Leeds, with Honesty collecting BIFA and London Critics’ Circle nominations. As a writer-director, she has been commissioned by the BFI, BBC, Barbican and Vogue, and has directed and produced TV programmes for BBC Three, BBC Four and Channel 4.
She is currently working on her debut feature-length screenplay for BBC Film and is developing a feature documentary with Film4 through her production company Besheh Meesheh Films.
