Rajesh Thind is an award-winning director and producer of premium factual TV series and feature-length documentary films, working both in the UK and Internationally. His work often tackles challenging subjects, which he approaches with sensitivity, skill and insight. He is passionate about finding ways to bring marginalised stories to mainstream audiences.
Rajesh’s films range from authored comedy documentaries (Travels with My Beard, BBC, 2006) to hard-hitting world affairs documentaries (This World: The Children of the Revolution, BBC, 2012). Earlier in his career, he produced such constructed factual shows as Wife Swap (Channel 4, 2005) and Secret Millionaire (Channel 4, 2012).
He also speaks seven languages and has lived and worked on four continents, so brings a depth of transnational understanding to his practice. In 2007, he worked at BBC Storyville producing the launch of Why Democracy?, which was at the time the largest global documentary series transmission in international broadcasting history. In 2015, he helped produce Buena Vista Social Club: Adios, a feature length sequel to Wim Wenders’ Oscar-nominated original film from 1999.
Rajesh’s premium history series Italia ’90: Four Weeks That Changed the World (Sky, 2023) was nominated for both Royal Television Society and Broadcast awards. Most recently, Rajesh developed, produced and directed Defiance: Fighting the Far Right (Channel 4, 2024), a landmark three-part social history series nominated for Best Factual Series at the 2024 Grierson and Broadcast Awards, and won Best Documentary at the 2024 Asian Culture & Theatre Awards (ACTA).
Rajesh also writes for the screen and stage, and is currently writing his debut non-fiction book.
