Joy Ngiaw
Composer
Joy Ngiaw is a Malaysian film and TV composer known for her emotionally rich and inventive scores. She gained acclaim for her work on Skydance Animation’s inaugural short film Blush (Apple TV+), which earned her the Best Music Award from Hollywood Music in Media and an Annie nomination in 2021. She also composed the score for the adventure trilogy Wondla (Skydance/Apple TV+), collaborating with industry icons such as John Lasseter (Toy Story, A Bug’s Life) and Bobs Gannaway (101 Dalmatians, Monsters at Work). Notably, Joy made history as the youngest composer to score a major studio logo for Skydance Animation.
Other credits include Mattel/Netflix’s Barbie Mysteries: The Great Horse Chase, Netflix/CBS’s Glamorous, and Netflix’s Rescued by Ruby. As a pianist and vocalist, Joy brings innovation to her music, experimenting with tones, textures, and vocal techniques like breaths, mouth percussion, hums, and nature-inspired sounds. Her passion for crafting nostalgic, emotionally driven scores serves to bridge diverse perspectives and evoke thought-provoking experiences.
In 2022, Joy’s talent was recognized with a nomination for the highly regarded Emerging Talent award by the Society of Composers and Lyricists, establishing her as a distinguished voice among the new generation of film composers. She was also one of eight composers selected for the highly competitive NBCUniversal Composers Initiative in 2024. An advocate for diversity and inclusion, Joy serves as an executive board member of the Composers Diversity Collective, where she champions underrepresented voices in the film scoring world.
