Jamaal Hassan is from Blackburn, Lancashire and is awarded the BAFTA scholarship to continue his studies for an MA in Visual Effects at the National Film and Television School. Jamaal graduated from the University of Liverpool with a Bachelor’s in Physics, achieving a first class honours degree. With a passion for storytelling, science and technology, he wanted to study Visual Effects to combine these areas and allow him to convey stories that truly express human imagination. Becoming a VFX artist, he hopes to be a part of telling narratives more representative of the diverse society in which we live in. Transitioning from a scientific background to an arts-based discipline, he wants to inspire others to pursue their aspirations regardless of their backgrounds and hopes to bring a vital voice to the creative industry.

Jamaal said:

“I am truly grateful to have been awarded a BAFTA scholarship to continue my studies in Visual Effects. With the scholarship, I can continue to follow a profession that I am genuinely passionate about without financial worry. As someone who initially thought it was impossible for me to enter the film industry due to financial barriers and my background, to have the support of BAFTA has encouraged confidence in myself and has reaffirmed my ambition to utilising visual effects in telling the stories of the future.”
