The 2026 BAFTA Cymru Awards: Portraits
Hilary Rosen is Director of Commissioning at UKTV, BBC Studios-owned broadcaster and streamer, where she leads the commissioning strategy. Under her leadership, UKTV has significantly expanded its original programming slate, delivering distinctive, audience-focused commissions including original dramas Hit Point, The Cadburys, Bergerac and Bookish alongside factual and entertainment hit shows: Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake, Will & Ralf Should Know Better and feature doc Becoming Victoria Wood. She was also original commissioner of Dave’s BAFTA-winning Taskmaster. Under Hilary’s leadership, UKTV was the first broadcaster to BAFTA albert certify all commissions to reduce a production’s carbon footprint and the first to commit to paying access costs on every production.
Hilary began her career in television in BBC News & Current Affairs, as a researcher on Panorama, before moving on to work in the independent production sector, firstly at Lion Television as Senior Executive Producer, and later as Creative Director at Silver River Productions.
She joined the BAFTA Television Committee in 2021 and has been chair for the last three years, alongside becoming a Board Trustee. As chair, she guided the extensive work in running the TV and Craft juries and shaping the editorial approach for awards ceremonies. At BAFTA she has been a strong supporter of the talent pipeline, chairing the Elevate programme jury and joining the selection panel for the BAFTA Breakthrough cohort.
Outside of BAFTA and UKTV, Hilary regularly speaks on industry panels and chairs events and taskforces, most recently Film and TV Charity’s Mentally Healthy Productions initiative. She has also led roundtables combatting antisemitism and Islamophobia in the industry. She has been a consultant for BBC Academy and has sat on the advisory boards of Edinburgh Television Festival and Realscreen and is a mentor for women in television.
