The 2026 BAFTA Cymru Awards: Portraits
Chloe Lamb is a screenwriter from Exeter, Devon, she is awarded the BAFTA Reuben Scholarship to support her completion of the MA in Film and Television at Falmouth University.
Chloe holds a first-class degree in Politics from Durham University and originally hoped to become a teacher. However, living with bipolar disorder meant that the career path she had planned became increasingly difficult to pursue. She began writing a comedy blog about the challenges of navigating your twenties and found the process both creative and cathartic, eventually leading her to write her first screenplay.
Drawing on her own experiences, Chloe is passionate about creating more nuanced portrayals of mental health on screen. While awareness of mental health has grown, she believes characters are still too often reduced to a diagnosis or a recovery narrative, rather than being portrayed as fully rounded people with ambitions, relationships and lives beyond their condition.
She says: “This BAFTA Scholarship could not be more life changing for me. I now have the opportunity to complete a master’s that will help pave the way for a career I’m genuinely excited about. For those of us living with conditions like bipolar, our mental health is not a defining plotline crowding out life beyond it, nor is it something that will be dramatically resolved. This sort of nuance belongs on screen, and I’m passionate about helping to bring it there. I couldn’t be more grateful to BAFTA for this opportunity.”
