Cara Bowen is a self-shooting producer-director and edit producer with more than 15 years’ experience across factual TV. Her 30-plus credits include The Undateables (Betty TV, 2017-2019), Inside Broadmoor: Criminally Insane (Good TV, 2023), Her Majesty the Queen: Behind Closed Doors (Love Monday, 2024) and Catching a Killer (True Vision, TX to come), with her work having played on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Discovery channels over the years. Her short film, Feeding Lewisham: Foodbanks in Crisis (2020), about a local food bank trying to cope during Covid and made during Lockdown, picked up several awards, including Best Film at the London and Toronto International Short Film Festivals.

She says the intimate creative process of documentaries, where she can combine her versatile camera skills with a strong editorial approach, allows her to create narratives that audiences can relate to on a personal level. Whether an independent project or some of the most viewed series in the world, she approaches her contributors and narratives with the same respect and fairness to tell their stories as truthfully as possible. Cara now feels ready to step up to more senior and long-term series director-producer roles that will enable her to be involved in projects from start to finish.

Cara is also a ScreenSkills-affiliated camera trainer and a management committee member of We Are Doc Women in charge of its camera training division, where she has successfully trained more than 70 practitioners in the industry, giving them the confidence they need to advance their careers.
