Calvin Nixon is awarded the BAFTA Scholarship to support his BSc Computer Game Design Course at the University of Staffordshire. Calvin was born in Macclesfield and grew up in the Northwest of England. He left high school with little qualifications and went straight into full time employment including factory and warehouse jobs before becoming an electrician. After three years as an electrician, he decided to follow his passion to work in the games industry.

Games had always been an important part of his life whilst growing up, helping him through hard times by providing an escape into worlds full of creativity and inspiration. In his second year of his degree he undertook an internship at Criterion games as a Producer, working on the Need for Speed franchise as well as and attending the BAFTA YGD showcase, representing Criterion studio and its publisher Electronic Arts to support young game developers.

Calvin said:

“These past few years have been life changing for me and I have found if you work hard enough you can accomplish things you never thought possible. I have also been extremely lucky and am privileged to have this opportunity from BAFTA to help me fulfil my goal to work in the gaming industry through the scholarship programme.”
