Alexander Newland has worked in the creative industry for more than 25 years as an actor and producer of films, digital media and live events. In 2023, Alexander co-launched the production company As Big As This, with the aim of developing an exciting mix of original IPs and existing work adaptations. Its first projects are a series of films and a documentary to accompany the album Daffodils & Dirt by the band Sam Morton, a collaborative project between actor Samantha Morton and XL Recordings music producer Richard Russell. In 2024, Alexander was selected for the TV Collective’s Breakthrough Leadership programme, sponsored by Sky, ITV and BBC Studios.

Alexander released his first feature film, Up on the Roof (2022), with Natalia Tena and Nathaniel Parker, and has produced a number of short films, commercials and music promos, which have won awards and played at such high-profile festivals as Palm Springs, Aesthetica and the London Short Film Festival. As an actor, he’s worked in both television and theatre, with screen credits including the likes of Cracker (1994), Cast Offs (2009) and Silent Witness (2013).

Alexander is also the co-founder of an award-winning creative technology company, Visual Voice, which helped deliver the world’s first AI-written car ad, Driven by Intuition (2018), for Lexus, directed by BAFTA and Oscar-winner Kevin Macdonald.

He’s passionate about making the film industry more equitable and accessible, and works with Breaking Through the Lens, an international non-profit organisation that gives film directors of marginalised genders access to grants and finance at large film markets.

Above all, Alexander is driven by an overwhelming enthusiasm for film and filmmakers and loves the challenge of making a creative vision a reality.
