EE British Academy Film Awards in 2013 - Winners Acceptance Speech: Outstanding Debut

10 February 2013
BAFTA winners at the Royal Opera House collecting their awards from a range of presenters at the EE British Academy Film Awards ceremony on Sun 10 Feb 2013.

Acceptance speech by Bart Layton and Dimitri Doganis, Director and Producer of The Imposter and winners of the Outstanding Debut by a British Writer/director or producer category at the EE Britsh Academy Film Awards in 2013.

BART LAYTON:  Well, thank you so much.  First I had a pee next to Samuel L Jackson and now this.

I don't think we ever imagined that this amazing journey was going to lead us to be in this room doing some shaky public speaking in front of so many of our heroes.  There are so many people we should thank for this.  Poppy Dixon, our co-producer, who is somewhere in the room, who we sent to Texas in search of a story that didn't want to be found, and without her we probably wouldn't have a film.

We should thank Molly Thompson at A&E and Katherine Butler at Film 4 who believed that we could mount this documentary and tell it like a thriller rather than a traditional doc, and believed in two first-timers.

BART LAYTON:  And obviously Andrew Hulme, editor, and my very dear friends and cinematographers, Erik Wilson and Lynda and all of you, thank you so much.

DIMITRI DOGANIS:  Thank you very much.
