New Talent Awards

The nominations for BAFTA Scotland's New Talent Awards 2011 have been announced - find the link below to download the official list.

BAFTA in Scotland today announced the nominations for the New Talent Awards 2011, which this year will be held on 24th March at the Glasgow Film Theatre, one of the city’s most iconic film venues. Hosted by Kaye Adams, the awards will recognise the very best in new and emerging talent in the moving image industries in Scotland.

This year’s nominations see ZOMBIE MUSICAL nominated in three categories. The short film is up for Best Producer (Short Form), Best Director (Short Form) and Original Music. ZOMBIE MUSICAL does exactly what it says on the tin – an all singing, all dancing zombie apocalypse, which has already been tipped for development by Black Camel Pictures.

The Original Music category is a brand new category and a first for BAFTA in Scotland, and with the judging panel consisting of representatives from Belle and Sebastian, The Bluebells and Teenage Fanclub, it is sure to be a hotly contested category.

Women, this year, dominate the Best Actor/Actress category. Hanna Stanbridge, stars in OUTCAST, a low budget horror film set in Edinburgh, which also stars Kate Dickie and James Cosmo, faces fierce competition from Amiera Darwish (STRANGE PLACES) and Eileen MacLennan (AN SEOLADH).

In addition to these categories, awards will be given out on the night for Technical Achievement, Animation, Experimental/Art, Writer, and Producer: Fiction or Factual (over 30 minutes). There will also be a special award for the Best Student Work.

BAFTA in Scotland believes that the future lies in rewarding excellence in the industry, championing innovation, and above all, in encouraging Scotland to be seen as a beacon of creative inspiration and quality, and to this end the New Talent Awards are a perfect demonstration of this belief.

Ewan Angus, Chairman of BAFTA in Scotland said: "These unique awards acknowledge excellence and highlight the future talent of Scottish film, television and digital media. Each year the standard of work never ceases to impress and this year is no exception, with a fantastic array of work shortlisted. My thanks go to the dedicated juries who watch each and every submission and select the best new talent Scotland has to offer.”

Jude MacLaverty, Director of BAFTA in Scotland said: “The BAFTA in Scotland New Talent Awards 2011 promises, once again, to be a fantastic, celebratory night. Our juries have been overwhelmed by the quality and originality of the work submitted. BAFTA in Scotland is very proud to promote and reward Scotland’s next generation of practitioners. Good luck to all of our hugely talented nominees. ”
