The BAFTA Gala supported by Bulgari took place last night at The Londoner Hotel and was hosted by Edith Bowman.
The BAFTA Gala, is the arts charity’s biggest fundraising event, with the funds raised helping to enable BAFTA’s work supporting young people building careers in film, games and television. Initiatives supported by the Gala include BAFTA Children and Young People’s activity such as BAFTA Young Game Designers and BAFTA Young Presenter, BAFTA Scholarships and BAFTA’s new career development bursary fund. Stars from across the worlds of film, television and games came out to support BAFTA, including Ronni Ancona, Adjoa Andoh, Alexander Armstrong, Jack Ashton, Barbara Broccoli, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Jenna Coleman, Nicola Coughlan, Tess Daly, Judi Dench, Cary Joji Fukunaga, Helen George, Tom Hiddleston, Vernon Kay, Lashana Lynch, George Mackay, Nick Mohammed, Piers Morgan, Ray Panthaki, Joely Richardson, Talulah Riley, Vinette Robinson, Andy Serkis, Celia Walden, Harriet Walter, Gemma Whelan, Deborah Frances-White, Olivia Williams, Molly Windsor and Susan Wokoma.
This was the fifth BAFTA Gala and the fundraiser was supported for the first time by Official Partner Bulgari, who have a long-term cinematic history and whose initiatives align with BAFTA’s through a shared commitment to breaking down barriers and nurturing and supporting talented individuals to develop careers in the creative industries. Bulgari is also the Official Jewellery and Watch Partner to the EE British Academy Film Awards.
In light of the devastating situation in Ukraine BAFTA will dedicate some of the funds raised at the Gala to support Ukrainian creatives working in the screen industries and those reporting on the conflict.
The gala was co-hosted by Amanda Berry CEO of BAFTA and Barbara Broccoli, BAFTA’s Vice President for Film. The evening was compered by Edith Bowman and featured a live auction chaired by Harry Dalmeny, chairman of Sotheby’s UK and Ireland and a range of musical performances. Singer-songwriter Reuben James performed a film medley and his own original song “So Cool”, and Max Harwood performed “Out of the Darkness” from the BAFTA-nominated Everybody’s Talking about Jamie. he night was hosted in The Ballroom at The Londoner and ended with a DJ set from Amazonica.
The EE British Academy Film Awards will be hosted by Rebel Wilson and will be broadcast exclusively in the UK on BBC One and BBC One HD at 19.00 GMT on Sunday 13 March. The ceremony is also broadcast in all major territories around the world. AJ Odudu and Tom Allen will be hosting BAFTA’s red-carpet show streamed live across BAFTA’s social channels (@BAFTA) from 15.00 GMT.
