BAFTA Kids Announces Winner Of Inaugural Young Presenter Competition

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has announced the winner of its first ever BAFTA Kids’ Young Presenter competition.

Twelve year-old Tianna from Surrey has won a once-in-a-lifetime chance to present BAFTA’s behind-the-scenes coverage at the British Academy Children’s Awards ceremony on Sunday 20 November at The Roundhouse in Camden, London.

Tianna will enjoy the full BAFTA Kids experience on the day of the ceremony, as she will be chatting to red carpet presenters Lindsey Russell and Luke Franks before being taken backstage to prepare for her interviews with citation readers and nominees from this year’s British Academy Children’s Awards.

Children aged between seven and 14 were invited to submit a short video of no more than two minutes, which showed them interviewing someone to whom they would like to give an award. This might have been a teacher, parent, brother, sister or friend. Tianna’s video shows her presenting her younger brother with an award for being the best player on his football team.

The BAFTA Kids’ Young Presenter competition forms part of the BAFTA Kids programme, a year-round series of events for families across the UK, run by BAFTA, including workshops, roadshows and master classes. BAFTA Kids’ activity provides an entertaining introduction to the world of children’s film, television, games and websites, showcasing the winners and nominees from the annual British Academy Children’s Awards, which recognises and celebrates excellence in the children’s media industry.

Helen Blakeman, Chair of the BAFTA Children’s Committee, said: “Tianna’s personality shines through. She is warm, engaging and a pleasure to watch. She asks great questions and has an ability to respond quickly which is vital when interviewing live. Her intelligence and genuine excitement for the challenge of filming behind the scenes at the Awards completely won us over.”

Tianna said: “I am so excited to have won the BAFTA Kids’ Young Presenter competition. I simply can’t wait to meet everyone behind-the-scenes at BAFTA’s Children’s Awards!”
