The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today confirmed that the nominations for this year’s Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards and British Academy Television Craft Awards will be announced on Thursday 4 June.

The nominations for Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment – the only Award voted for by the public – will be announced on Wednesday 3 June.

Amanda Berry OBE, Chief Executive at BAFTA, said: “We are thrilled to confirm the new date for our nominations announcement, for both the Virgin Media BAFTAs and the Television Craft Awards. During this difficult time, we want to applaud the fantastic efforts of the many talented individuals, both behind and in-front of the camera, many of whom have continued to inform and entertain the nation in recent weeks. We look forward to announcing more details about the ceremonies soon.”

David Bouchier, Virgin Media Chief Digital Entertainment Officer said, “TV gives us all the opportunity to be entertained and escape back to a more normal world, which is needed now more so than ever. I’m delighted the new nominations announcement dates for the Virgin Media BAFTAs and the Must-See Moment have been set, so we can celebrate the fantastic TV shows and amazing people behind them that hooked the nation in 2019.”

Originally scheduled for March 2020, the nominations announcement was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

BAFTA continues to monitor current guidance on TV productions and live events. New dates and formats for both the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards and British Academy Television Craft Awards will be announced soon.

Notes to editors:

Since the UK lockdown, BAFTA has continued to celebrate and connect talent, keeping industry networks alive and creatively inspired.  In March, BAFTA hosted its first online-only awards show, the Games Awards, and each week holds multiple live Q&A events, previews or new talent networking sessions online, continuing the year-round learning programme which has also been open to the public. BAFTA is also supporting The Film and TV Charity’s Covid-19 emergency response, using its networks and resources to tackle the impact of Covid-19 on the industry workforce.
