This evening, BAFTA and Netflix hosted a celebration event for this year’s BAFTA Breakthrough cohort.
A celebration of the industry’s future change makers, the event was held at 180 House, London. Many of this year’s Breakthrough stars attended, including Ambika Mod (performer, This is Going to Hurt), Diana Olifirova (cinematographer, Heartstopper), Jack Rooke (writer, Big Boys), Leon Harrop (performer, Ralph & Katie), Marley Morrison (director, Sweetheart), Nell Barlow (performer, Sweetheart), Nicôle Lecky (writer and performer, MOOD), Paul Sng (director, Poly Styrene: I Am A Cliché), Chloë Fairweather (director, Dying to Divorce), Joanna Boateng (producer, Uprising), Alex Thomas (director, Yorkshire Cop: Police, Racism and Me), Theo Williams (director, Terms and Conditions: Deeper than the Drill), Alyx Jones (dialogue editor, Elden Ring), Emily Brown (lead designer, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure), Morag Taylor (principal technical artist, Total War: Warhammer 3), Jamal Green (composer, TOEM), and Zachary Soares and Luciana Nascimento (co-founders, Moonglow Bay).
Previous Breakthrough alumni including Kirsty Gillmore, Chad Orororo, Rubika Shah, Lyttanya Shannon and Joe Jackson were in attendance alongside this year’s cohort.
A number of additional key industry figures, such as writer, director and producer Baz Luhrmann, actors George MacKay, Nathaniel Martello-White, Percelle Ascott and Jorden Myrie, composer Daniel Pemberton, and producers Rob Watson and Suzanne Mackie also joined in the celebration to show their support for this year’s talented Breakthrough names.
BAFTA CEO Jane Millichip and Breakthrough jurors across the TV, film and games industries, including Fiona Lamptey, Ade Rawcliffe, Emma Morgan and Jorg Tittel also attended the event.
BAFTA Breakthrough is BAFTA’s flagship new talent initiative to accelerate extraordinary people working in TV, film and games who are on the cusp or in the midst of a breakthrough moment or year. From facilitating key meetings with BAFTA’s global membership and key industry figures, to coaching and career development, BAFTA Breakthrough is unique and hugely successful, with alumni including Amir El-Masry, Daisy May Cooper, Gemma Langford, Florence Pugh, Jessie Buckley, Kayleigh Llewellyn, Letitia Wright, Malachi Kirby, Ruth Madeley, and Tom Holland.
As the main supporting partner for the fourth year on BAFTA Breakthrough, Netflix continues to provide integral support in the global expansion. Through Breakthrough, BAFTA and Netflix share a joint vision to celebrate and provide opportunities for emerging talent across the world, bringing together international communities across global networks, in order to develop and support stories and voices from different cultures.
