A Russian actor and director known for founding the Taganka theatre in Moscow which was a haven for artistic rebellion, Lyubimov’s amassed fifteen screen credits but his work was mostly on the stage. He toured the Taganka around the globe and in 1984 staged a memorable production of Crime and Punishment in London.
