A Welsh actor best known for playing PC Alf Ventress on Heartbeat (1992-1999), Simons appeared in over 350 episodes of the 1960s-set police drama - more than any other actor. His other notable credits included Where No Vultures Fly (1951), The Old Curiosity Shop (1962), Cribb (1980-1981) and The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries (1990-1994).
