An American screenwriter who created soap opera The Colbys (1985-1987), Bast wrote for television for over 40 years. He received an Emmy nomination for his adaptation of The Man in the Iron Mask (1977) and was a close friend of James Dean, penning two biographies and a TV biopic of the actor’s life.
