A British satirist and writer, who occasionally stepped in front of the camera, most memorably as the struggling band manager in This is Spinal Tap (1984). He was more comfortable as a writer, penning biting skits for That Was the Week That Was (1962-63) and Playboy After Dark (1969) and co-writing sports comedy The Great White Hype (1996). He was jointly nominated for a BAFTA in 1985 for Spitting Image.
