Ted Whitehead

A British screenwriter and playwright, who enjoyed success both on television and in the theatre, where he wrote under the name of EA Whitehead. Ted Whitehead wrote several popular television adaptations of novels, including Fay Weldon’s The Life and Loves of a She-Devil (1986) and The Cloning of Joanna May (1992), and Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles (1998) and The Mayor of Casterbridge (2003). He also contributed episodes for such series as Full House (1972), World’s End (1981), The Detective (1985), Cracker (1994) and Ruth Rendell Mysteries (1998). His own original play for the Royal Court, Alpha Beta, was given the feature length treatment in 1974.
