A British television executive whose career in broadcasting began aged 34 as the Deputy Chairman of the Independent Television Authority, Bland became the Chairman of LWT in 1984, which he successfully streamlined before orchestrating a genius takeover at auction in 1991. He has a successful stint as BBC Chairman (1996-2001) and was later Chair of the RSC (2004-2011).
