A German games executive, who co-founded Kalypso Media in Germany in 2006 with Stefan Marcinek. The company is best known for its Tropico strategy games, from the third edition onwards (2009-) after acquiring the property from Take-Two Interactive. Kalypso grew significantly under Hellwig’s leadership, opening offices in the UK, US and France, adding five development studios under its publisher wing. Other games in the Kalypso portfolio include Dungeons 1-3 (2011-2017), Dark (2013), Railway Empire (2018), Commandos 2/Praetorians remaster (2020) and Port Royale 4 (2020). Hellwig previously founded and ran Blackstar Interactive.
