A prolific American character actor who regularly collaborated with John Cassavettes, Cassel appeared in seven of the director’s films from Shadows (1958) through to After Love Streams (1984) and received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role in Faces (1968). His other notable credits included Coogan’s Bluff (1968), Dick Tracy (1990) and Rushmore (1998).
