An Italian writer and director whose trio of spaghetti westerns earned him a cult international status, Sollima wrote and directed The Big Gundown (1966), Face to Face (1967) and Run, Man, Run (1968). He found later success with crime thrillers Violent City (1970) and Blood in the Streets (1973), and the TV miniseries Sandokan (1976).
