A British actress, who was perhaps best known for her theatre work but did also appear on British television and in film. Ruth Madoc made her screen debut in Under Milk Wood and Fiddler on the Roof (both 1971), followed by a small role in the star-studded Crossed Swords (1977), but it was on British TV where she became a well-known face. As Maplins’ chief Yellowcoat Gladys Pugh in 50-plus episodes of holiday camp sitcom Hi-de-Hi! (1980-1988) she really made her mark and was nominated for a BAFTA. She would later appear in episodes of Cluedo (1992), The Famous Five (1995-1997), Mine All Mine (2004), Little Britain (2004-2005), Benidorm (2015), The Tuckers (2022) and more.
