A British factual programming executive producer and former head of factual programmes at Granada Television, where he also served as editor of Granada Reports and head of regional programmes. Caird worked at the regional broadcaster for 16 years, before moving into independent production in 1993 and then consultancy work, including 10 years with A+E Networks (2000-2010). He established Rod Caird Associates in 2010 and continued to originate and produce factual programming. He also worked as a consultant for producers advocacy organisation PACT (2012-2017).
